Bayview Gourmet: Ocean Springs, MS (Lunch, July 25, 2013)

2/5:  Willing to try again, especially for breakfast or brunch.
Service was excellent, and the server was very knowledgeable.
Food is authentic.
The shrimp salad was overly sweet, would have been better if the fruit had been raw rather than sauteed.  It was served with the warm fruit syrup and a raspberry dressing which made the greens wilt so salad ended up warm and mushy, needed some texture or crunch.  The salad was a large portion but the shrimp too took on the soft texture of the rest of the salad.
The crab and corn chowder was delicious-sweet and creamy.
The tuna steak sandwich had an odd texture and was undercooked.  We ordered the fish medium but it arrived very rare.   The wasabi sauce described in the menu was not available, and was replaced with a creole mustard remoulade sauce which may have suited a different fish better, perhaps a salmon burger.
The artichoke beignets were exceptional.  The artichoke was cooked perfectly, tender, sweet, and mild.  The dough was also perfect, crunchy on the outside, savory and soft on the inside.  The creole mustard sauce was perfect on the beignets, which were served on a bed of greens with shaved cheese.
We also had a kids cheeseburger, which though conventional was spot on, and served with steak-cut french fries.
The prices were fair.
